About the Mountaineers
Last Time Out
The Mountaineers have defeated higher-seeded opponents in the Sun Belt Tournament two of the last four years. App State upset the No. 2 overall seed Louisiana 4-2 in the opening match play round just a season ago. Although the Apps are coming off a 4-2 loss against non-conference opponent Davidson last Sunday, the upset-minded Black and Gold looks to lean on their 4-2 neutral site record down in Georgia. In doubles play against the Wildcats, Appalachian came back from a one-match deficit to claim a doubles point and took a 1-0 advantage heading into singles.
Zion Heaven (Ewa Beach, HI/Florida Virtual) and
Milo Bargeron (Chislehurst, England/Bullerswood) topped Matthew Rose and Yash Parikh for the 6-1 doubles victory. Bargeron capped off his stellar outing with a hard-fought 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 singles win as the No. 1 in the lineup over Axel Fries.
Wins Leaders
Bargeron's seven singles wins leads the team as Heaven overcame a 1-4 start to trail closely behind with six wins of his own. In doubles,
Alex Brea (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) and Stone Campbell (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton) posted a 7-7 record.
Zion Heaven and
Afonso Viana (Rua Deviera, Portugal Cebes Porto Portugal) sit at the .500 mark as well at 3-3.
Alex Pavkovich (Queensland, Australia/Mansfield State) and Bargeron have four victories.
