BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's tennis (5-19) suffered a 4-2 decision to Davidson (12-8) on Senior Day at Deer Valley Racquet Club on Sunday afternoon.
Alex Brea and
Campbell Stone were honored before the game for the Senior Day festivities while showcasing a valiant effort against one of the Atlantic 10's top teams.
In doubles play, the Black and Gold came back from a one-match deficit to claim the doubles point and a 1-0 advantage going into singles.
Zion Heaven and
Milo Bargeron topped Matthew Rose and Yash Parikh on Court No. 1 in a 6-1 victory.
Brea and Stone provided an entertaining doubles contest against their opponents. The match went into a tiebreaker in which the senior tandem won, 7-6 (8-6) over Brooks Green and Sam Kavarana for their team-high seventh victory of the year.
The Wildcats tied up the match, 1-1, after winning on Court No. 3 before Bargeron capped off a stellar day with a hard-fought 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win as the No. 1 in the lineup over Axel Fries.
It was the last match the Black and Gold won with Davidson capturing the final three matches of the contest. However, Heaven's match went to three sets while
Ben Webster narrowly fell in the second set, 7-5. A second-set win would've given Webster momentum going into the final frame.
App State will be the eighth seed in the Sun Belt Championships held in Peachtree City, Ga. The Mountaineers will play on Friday, April 19 at 5 p.m. against top-seeded Georgia State.
