BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's tennis (5-15, 1-3 SBC) suffered a 4-0 decision to UTA (11-7, 2-2 SBC) on Sunday morning at the Deer Valley Racquet Club.
Despite the loss, App State did earn a split going 1-1 after its thrilling win over Louisiana on Friday.
The Mavericks started off by capturing the doubles point with both duos of
Milo Bargeron/
Alex Pavkovich and
Alex Brea/Stone Campbell being edged in their matches, 6-3.
UTA would take the first three finished matches. However, Bargeron gave his counterpart, Enrique Pardo, all he could handle on Court No. 1. Bargeron fell to Pardo, 7-5, before a marathon of a second set that went into a tiebreaker. Bargeron went toe-to-toe with Pardo but suffered the loss, 7-6 (11-9) in the match.
Zion Heaven's first set went into a tiebreaker as well but fell short against Mauricio Rio, 7-6 (7-4), in the first frame. He later fell in the second stanza, 6-2, as the No. 3 in the lineup.
App State will look to rebound next weekend when it travels to Georgia for matches against Georgia Southern on Saturday at 1 p.m. before facing Georgia State on Sunday at 10 a.m.
