BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State Wrestling will have a new look as it faces a familiar ACC foe.
Sporting new gold and black Nike singlets that were revealed earlier this week, App State is heading to Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium for a Thursday night dual at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra — fans can watch on WatchESPN or the ESPN app.
The two programs have met in each of the previous seven seasons, with the Mountaineers claiming three wins and being involved in four close losses.
Appalachian (5-6) is coming off its best victory of the season, a 21-14 decision against Chattanooga. Since opening the season with a 36-9 win against Gardner-Webb and a victory against Penn, the Blue Devils (2-5) have dropped duals against Brown, Navy, NC State, Old Dominion and Virginia Tech.
The Mountaineers have six wrestlers in the top 32 of the initial coaches' rankings, led by
Randall Diabe at No. 17. He is 20-5 overall and 10-1 in duals.
Duke has four wrestlers (two sets of Finesilver twins who are all brothers) in the top 32 of the initial coaches' rankings: Josh Finesilver (No. 30 at 141), Mitch Finesilver (No. 6 at 149), Zach Finesilver (No. 25 at 165) and Matt Finesilver (No. 16 at 174). Josh Finesilver pulled out a 2-0 decision against
Irvin Enriquez in a 141-pound matchup earlier this season at the Keystone Classic, while App State's
Alan Clothier won a major decision against returning starter Kaden Russell at 184 during last year's dual in Durham.
This season, Duke has had an open slot at 133 pounds in all seven of its duals.
