BOONE, N.C. — With a fourth straight Southern Conference regular season title secured, Appalachian State Wrestling will head to Pennsylvania this weekend for a dual meet doubleheader before it hosts the SoCon Championships in Boone on March 10.
The Mountaineers are closing the regular season with nonconference duals Saturday at Bloomsburg (1 p.m.) and No. 21 Lock Haven (7:30 p.m.). Lock Haven is about 70 miles west of Bloomsburg in central Pennsylvania.
App State (8-6) is 6-1 in duals since the calendar flipped to 2019, with its current four-match winning streak including victories against Chattanooga, Duke, Davidson and The Citadel.
Bloomsburg is 3-10 overall with one common opponent in Ohio, which won 34-9 against the Huskies.
Lock Haven is 9-3 overall after capping a 6-0 run through the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL). The Bald Eagles have a common opponent with App State in Oklahoma, which won 23-12 against Lock Haven. Since then, the Bald Eagles are 7-1 with a 23-14 win against then-No. 12 Arizona State.
Against Lock Haven, there could be five matchups between two wrestlers ranked in the top 33 of the NCAA Coaches' Panel: at 133 pounds, 141 pounds, 165 pounds, 184 pounds and 285 pounds.
