Last Time Out
The Mountaineers went 1-2 in a two-day span to start the 2019 spring slate.. Two of Appalachian's three foes in Elon and ETSU went a combined 32-16 in 2017-18. The Bucs were an NCAA Tournament squad after finishing a perfect 7-0 in SoCon play en route to a conference title. App picked up its first win with a 4-0 shutout over North Carolina A&T last Saturday in the second match of its doubleheader in Elon.
Milo Bargeron recorded the clinching triumph in three sets as the No. 1 in the lineup. Highlighting the weekend for App was Bargeron and
Afonso Viana, as both players earned a single and doubles victory.
Freshmen Make Their Debut
All four freshmen made their collegiate debut.
Zion Heaven and Viana played as a tandem for the first time, picking up an impressive victory over ETSU's Sergi Fontcuberta/David Gonzalez.
Will Hart played his first singles match, but it went unfinished.
Bence Tamas also participated in singles and later in doubles with Viana. Heaven played singles as well with one match.
Scouting Clemson
The Tigers defeated The Citadel in a doubleheader last Saturday, finishing 11-1 in singles play and 6-0 in doubles action. Mike Agee, Simon Baudry, Teodor Giusca, Carlos Kelaidis, and Yizhou Liu paced singles play with a 2-0 record. All six of the Tigers' doubles wins finished with a score of 6-0. Last season, Clemson went 10-13 and 4-4 at home. Baudry and Liu led the team with 15 and 14 singles wins, respectively. Clemson finished 93-92 in singles and 44-41 in doubles.

App State continues its road trip next Saturday against Richmond at 12 p.m.
