Previewing the Season
After a 2017-18 campaign in which the Mountaineers tied the highest win improvement in the Sun Belt from five to 11 victories, posting a .500 record and their first Sun Belt Tournament win, expectations have reached new heights. Appalachian returns three of its four All-Sun Belt selections,
Heidi Swope,
Teodora Sevo and
María José Zacarias, while
Rebecca Morse, who won a career-high nine matches, also returns. Appalachian went 64-59 in singles, including a combined mark of 24-16 by Sevo (13-7) and Zacarias (11-9).
Sandra Anglesjö got in on the action, as she chipped in with a pair of wins and won seven doubles matches.
Jeannez Daniel is ready to make her spring debut for the Apps after spending the last three seasons with Colorado, and
Kate Earnhardt is in her first year following a redshirt campaign. In doubles, Swope and Zacarias went 13-6 en route to an all-conference first team nod. Sevo and former Mountaineer,
Melissa Machado, went 14-5. Appalachian's 11 victories were the most since the 2012-13 campaign when that team won 14 victories.
