Box Score 1 ELON, N.C. - After falling 4-0 to a tough Elon team in the season opener, Appalachian State University men's tennis (1-1) defeated North Carolina A&T (0-2), 4-0, in the second match of a doubleheader on Friday afternoon.

Craig Schwartz earned his first victory as the coach for the Black and Gold. Four different Mountaineers registered singles wins while one doubles tandem in
Milo Bargeron/
Alex Brea tallied a victory. Bargeron highlighted the day for the Apps with one singles and one doubles win.

Match 2: Appalachian State 4, NC A&T 0
Appalachian bounced back quickly, as it captured the four singles victories it needed to claim the win.
Blake Carter got off on the right foot as the No. 5 in the lineup with a 6-3, 6-2, triumph over his counterpart, Jordan Lawrence. Continuing the strong opening was
Alex Pavkovich as the No. 2, dealing Hayden Faulkenbury a 6-4, 6-3 triumph to give App a 2-0 edge during the contest. Picking up his first collegiate victory and pushing the Black and Gold to a 3-0 advantage was
Afonso Viana, earning himself a hard-fought win that included a tie-breaking second set over Vasil Ivanov, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6). Clinching the match was Bargeron, but it wasn't easy. The junior needed to come from behind after a 7-6 (7-1) first-set loss to deal his opponent a loss in the next two sets, 6-0, 6-2. Also seeing their first collegiate action was
Bence Tamas and
Will Hart. Both of the freshmen's matches went unfinished.
Match 1: Elon 4, Appalachian State 0
The Apps had their hands full with a formidable Phoenix squad despite getting off to a good start. Bargeron and Brea notching a 6-1 victory over Felipe Osses-Konig/Dino Bonetta as the No. 3 tandem. Three of the four freshmen were a part of the top two duos in the lineup.
Zion Heaven partnered with Pavkovich but fell 6-3 to Taylor Foote and Mario Paccini. In the deciding doubles match, Tamas/Viana suffered a 6-1 loss to Camilo Ponce/Kyle Frankel. Appalachian couldn't get any momentum going in singles with the hosts picking up the three singles victories it needed for the win.
App State will return to action tomorrow for another tough matchup against ETSU in Johnson City, Tenn. at 11:30 a.m.
