FALL SCHEDULE
BOONE, N.C. - The fall season for Appalachian State University men's tennis gets underway this weekend at the 51st annual Southern Intercollegiate Championships hosted by Georgia in Athens, Ga. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
This weekend will mark the first fall tournament for the new-look Mountaineers, as
Craig Schwartz is in his first year at the helm after arriving from St. John's. App State finished 2018 with a 12-11 mark for its third straight winning season and a and its second upset victory in three seasons at the Sun Belt Tournament with a 4-3 win over then-No. 2 seed Louisiana.
"We are excited to get the fall season started at UGA this weekend," coach Schwartz said. "This is a tough tournament that will give me a good indication of where the guys currently are at physically and strategically tennis wise."
Appalachian returns six letterwinners from last season including five of its six leading winners in singles play and its duo of
Alex Pavkovich and
Ben Webster, who was tied for first in doubles victories with 15. Webster was second on the team with 12 singles wins while
Milo Bargeron and Pavkovich were tied for second with nine wins.
Blake Carter and
Campbell Stone finished the season with six victories apiece.
Those five along with returning letterwinner,
Alex Brea, and newcomers in
Zion Heaven and Will Hart make up the men's tennis roster.
The Southern Intercollegiate Championships is one of four fall tournaments App will participate in to get ready for the spring slate. Appalachian will take part in the Elon Invitational Sept. 21-23 before heading to Davidson for the Wildcats' Invitational the following week. App will close out the fall campaign with the ITA Regionals hosted by Duke in Cary, N.C. from Oct. 12-16.
