NEW ORLEANS - After scoring the eventual game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over UNCG on Saturday,
Reed Hunnicutt was named the Sun Belt's Offensive Player of the Week.
The sophomore earns the honor for the first time in his career, while he is the third Mountaineer (
Camden Holbrook,
Jake Chasteen) to register a conference weekly award.
After a 0-0 first half, Hunnicutt received a nice ball from
Juan Hernandez on the left side of the box before sending in the shot over into the right side of the net for his first goal of the season.
Hunnicutt is one of many Mountaineers that have helped App to a 5-1-1 mark and an unblemished record at home thus far. The Apps are off to their best start since 2002 (5-1-1) while matching last season's win total.
Appalachian will have a tough test this evening at 7 p.m. against a 6-1 High Point team on the road.
