BOONE, N.C. – The App State men's soccer team opens its spring schedule on Saturday, Feb. 15, taking on the East Tennessee State Buccaneers. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at the Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex in Boone.
This will serve as the opening weekend of the Southeast Challenge. Eight teams will participate in the spring league, with two divisions. In the North Division, App State will compete against UNC Asheville and USC Upstate, along with ETSU. The South Division is comprised of Sun Belt opponents Georgia State and Georgia Southern, as well as Mercer and UAB.
The Mountaineers will take on USC Upstate on Feb. 29 and UNC Asheville and Queens on March 28. The games on March 28 will be played at Ted Mack.
The Mountaineers consistently ranked in the top 10 of the Southeast region in the United Soccer Coaches poll during 2019, ranking as high as No. 4. App State's RPI took a huge leap as well, jumping from 121 in 2018 to 68 in 2019. The Mountaineers ranked as high as 43 in the RPI during the 2019 season. App State scored 26 goals over the course of the season, the most since 2009.
