Harris Named to United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region Second Team

Kansas City -- App State men's soccer defender Zeiko Harris was named Second Team All-Southeast region by United Soccer Coaches, the organization announced Monday, Dec. 9. This is the defender's first honor from United Soccer Coaches.

This is yet another award for Harris, who was named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year and All-Sun Belt first team in November. The defender was also named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State first team. Harris is one of seven players from the Sun Belt named to the All-Southeast region team.

Harris anchored the App State defense that ended the regular season leading the Sun Belt in shutouts (7), T-2nd in goals allowed (20) and 3rd in goals against average (1.153). App State's shutout percentage of .412 sat at 37th nationally. The Mountaineers also posted their eighth shutout of the season in the Sun Belt Tournament against Howard.

Along with Harris' defensive effort, he scored two goals this season, including the game-winner in the 2-0 win over George Mason. The defender tallied nine shots with four on goal.

The Mountaineers consistently ranked in the top 10 of the Southeast region in the United Soccer Coaches poll during 2019, ranking as high as No. 4. App State's RPI took a huge leap as well, jumping from 121 in 2018 to 68 in 2019. The Mountaineers ranked as high as 43 in the RPI during the 2019 season. App State scored 26 goals over the course of the season, the most since 2009.
