Men's Soccer Welcomes UNCG to High Country

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's soccer (4-1-1) hosts UNCG (3-4-0) on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.

About the Mountaineers
The Mountaineers are returning to action after Sunday's home matchup against Bradley that was postponed due to the storm. In addition, the match against Elon was moved to Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex. App State's most recent outing came in a 1-1 tie against UNC Asheville on the road. Camden Holbrook scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season to give the Black and Gold a 1-0 edge. However, the Bulldogs scored in the final eight minutes to ultimately tie up the contest and force overtime. Both teams couldn't convert some great chances to pull out the win.

Fast Start
Despite an 0-1-1 stretch in the past two contests following a 4-0 start, the Mountaineers are off to their best start since beginning the 2012 campaign at 4-1-1. Appalachian is one win away from matching last season's win total, while the Apps are 2-0 at Ted Mack this season outscoring opponents 5-1 on their home turf.

Freshman National Rankings
Once again, Holbrook was mentioned among the nation's best freshman as he was recognized by Top Drawer Soccer's top 10 freshmen among the nation. Included in that list were first-year players from schools such as Washington, Syracuse, Oregon State, SMU, NC State and Northwestern. Holbrook is tied for second among freshmen in goals scored and tied for 24th overall with five scores.

Jake the Keeper
Jake Chasteen has had a solid season thus far, where he is second in the Sun Belt in save percentage at .773, second in goals against average (.79) and tied for first with a pair of clean sheets. Nationally, the hometown native is in the top 50 in shutouts and goals against average.

Scouting UNCG
The Spartans are 3-4 after a 1-0 double overtime win against Elon on Tuesday to snap a four-match skid. UNCG has been a tough out on the road with a 2-1 mark. Matt Mattis and Alex Henderson lead the offense with a pair of goals and four points each. The UNCG offense has a balanced attack with eight different student-athletes scoring. In the net for Saturday's visitor is Ricky Zarri, who has six starts in six appearances with a 1.65 goals against average and 21 saves in 491 minutes of action.

Series History
App is 9-22 all-time against UNCG after last season's 1-0 overtime loss on the road. The Mountaineers' last win against the Spartans came in 2011.

What's Next
Appalachian will go on the road on Tuesday to face High Point at 7 p.m. before another road game awaits at George Mason on Saturday at 7 p.m.
