ATHENS, Ga. - Appalachian State University men's tennis posted a solid opening weekend with five different Mountaineers earning wins in the first fall tournament of the season.

The Mountaineers were highlighted by the singles play of
Milo Bargeron,
Blake Carter, and
Campbell Stone while
Alex Pavkovich and
Zion Heaven teamed up for the first time to make some noise in the tournament.
Bargeron dealt Tim Gennes of Stetson a first-round straight-set defeat to advance to the Round of 32 on Friday before falling to Gregor Hutterer (Georgia Gwinnett). Carter had himself a solid weekend, as after he earned a first-round bye, the sophomore Austin Anderson (Kennesaw State) in a hard-earned 7-5 (5), 7-5 (6) triumph to move on to the quarterfinal round. Carter suffered a 6-3, 6-3 setback to George Wong of Lipscomb.Â
In the same bracket, Stone registered a first-round victory over UT Chattanooga's Kaisei Kuroki in a convincing victory to advance. Teaming up for the first time was Pavkovich and Heaven, who was the lone tandem to earn a victory. The duo toppled Paul LaHue and Bo Nash of UT Chattanooga, 8-2, to advance to the Round of 16. William Hart and Stone paired up while
Alex Brea/Carter and Bargeron and
Ben Webster all represented Appalachian in the doubles bracket.Â
Appalachian fared well in the consolation rounds with Webster racking up a win over Josh Laka from Stetson, while Pavkovich came back from a one-set deficit to down Lipscomb's Jake Penny.
The Mountaineers will have two weeks off before the Elon Invitational Sept. 21-23.Â
