Black Tops Gold, 1-0, in Annual Scrimmage

BOONE, N.C. - Sophomore Justin Pruitt's goal in the first half was the difference in the Black's 1-0 win over the Gold in the annual Black and Gold scrimmage for Appalachian State University men's soccer on Saturday evening at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.

Both teams had several opportunities to add more to the scoreboard, with the Black squad coming away with three shots at the net and the Gold with two attempts on target.

A mix of the freshmen and upperclassmen were split off into the two teams, while Jake Chasteen posted the clean sheet with a pair of saves.

"I thought it was great to see every player healthy play tonight," head coach Jason O'Keefe said. "They all got some quality match fitness in. Everyone did well and it is a good start. We have high ambitions so we will build off this and get ready for Radford on Wednesday, which will be a much tougher challenge that will make us even better."

App State will continue its preseason with a road friendly at Radford on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
