BOONE, N.C. — Reigning champion Appalachian State tied for the league lead by having five wrestlers make the Academic All-Southern Conference Team that was released Monday.
The Mountaineers, who claimed a third straight SoCon regular season title with an unbeaten conference record and won the SoCon tournament to cap a sweep of league titles, are represented on the Academic team by
Forrest Przybysz (business administration),
Matt Zovistoski (biology),
Miller Clark (accounting),
Carl Guess (marketing) and
Christian Beach (marketing).
The Academic All-Conference Team includes student-athletes who achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3, and recipients must have completed at least three semesters of class work.
It's yet another honor for Przybysz, a three-time NWCA Division I All-Academic team member who won a SoCon title at 174 pounds before receiving the Pinnacle Award that goes to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA on the championship team. He had a 3.89 GPA as an MBA student who graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Walker College of Business with an undergraduate degree in Economics.
Like Przybysz, Zovistoski has qualified for the NCAA Championships during his App State career. Clark was a sophomore on the title-winning team in 2017, while Guess and Beach were both redshirt freshmen.
Przybysz made the Academic All-Southern Conference Team for the third straight year. Clark, Guess and Beach also received academic recognition from the Southern Conference last year.
