BOONE, N.C. - The stellar season for Appalachian State University men's tennis senior
Scott Webster continues, as he was named the fourth-best Australian in collegiate tennis according to universaltennis.com on Friday.
Webster is featured on the list with six athletes from five power five programs including Illinois, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Oregon and Minnesota, and is ranked in front athletes that represent the Ducks, Vols, Gophers, and Gonzaga. The Perth, Australia native moves up two spots from last season's list into the top five with a score of 13.59. For a second straight season, Aleks Vukic of Illinois owns the top spot with a score of 14.73, VT's Mitchell Harper (14.04) is second and fellow Perth native Scott Jones (Tennessee) rounds out the top three clocking in at 13.62.
"It's cool, my best mate from back home is No. 3 (Jones) on the list, so he's giving me stick about it," Webster said. "But really, it's awesome to see so many Australian's excelling in college tennis, and to be a part of that group is nice recognition."
For the season, Webster is an excellent team-best 14-4 in singles and 13-4 in doubles action with partner,
Milo Bargeron. The team's No.1 in the lineup has won at least 13 matches in singles and 12 contests in doubles all four seasons, leading to a 59-16 (singles) record and a 50-23 (doubles) showing. Combine both records and you get over 100-career wins, adding another feat to his already remarkable career.
Webster and the 10-10 Mountaineers will close out the season with a tough stretch as they visit a 13-5 Davidson squad on Saturday at 1 p.m. before hosting Coastal Carolina in the regular-season finale on Sunday at 11 a.m.
