Men's Basketball to Conclude Non-Conference Play at Saint Louis

BOONE, N.C. -- Appalachian State men's basketball will conclude its non-conference slate with a road contest at Saint Louis on Sunday at 3 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports Midwest and ESPN+.

THE SERIES
  • This will be the first all-time meeting between the two schools.
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Mountaineers pushed their non-conference home winning streak to 12 consecutive games and completed their second straight perfect non-conference home schedule with a 99-60 win over Milligan on Dec. 20.
  • All five starters posted double figure scoring in the win. Ronshad Shabazz finished with a game-high 29 points on 10-of-15 (66.7 percent) shooting and a 7-of-10 (70.0 percent) clip from deep. The seven made three-pointers represented a new season-high for Shabazz.
  • Isaac Johnson had a strong all around performance, tallying 20 points on 8-of-12 (66.7 percent) shooting, seven rebounds, a career-high seven assists and a season-best three steals.
  • Hunter Seacat posted his first career double-double with career-highs of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Adrian Delph added 11 points on 4-of-6 (66.7 percent) shooting in his first career start and Tyrell Johnson had 11 points, five rebounds and two blocks.
  • The Mountaineers jumped out to a quick 13-4 lead in the early going, only to see Milligan storm back and take a 21-20 lead with 10:58 left in the opening half. App State responded with the next seven points to open a 27-21 edge and took a 40-31 advantage into the intermission. In the second half, the Black and Gold scored the first eight points to extend its lead to 48-31. Milligan would trim the App State lead to 14 points, but the Mountaineers extended their advantage to 71-49 with 8:11 to play. Following a basket by Levarity, the Black and Gold answered with a 20-6 run to put the game out of reach.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • App State enters its final non-conference game at 5-7 on the season.
  • The Black and Gold are averaging 85.4 points per game, which ranks 12th in the nation.
  • Over his last two games, Hunter Seacat is averaging 12.5 points on 62.5 percent (10-of-16) shooting, 8.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
  • Isaac Johnson has now recorded seven or more rebounds in eight consecutive contests and is averaging 10.0 rebounds during that stretch. His season average of 9.1 rebounds is tied for tops in the Sun Belt and sits 48th in the nation.
  • Ronshad Shabazz has tallied 20 or more points in seven games this season, including five of his last six games. He is just 12 points shy of moving into fourth place on the all-time scoring list and 22 points shy of moving into third place.
SCOUTING THE BILLIKENS
  • Saint Louis fell to 8-4 on the season with a 81-59 loss to No. 11-ranked Florida State on Dec. 22.
  • Javon Bess led the Billikens with 16 points, while Carte'Are Gordon added a career-high 14 points and seven rebounds...Jordan Goodwin registered eight points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals.
  • Bess is averaging a team-high 15.1 points and 7.3 rebounds. Tramaine Isabell Jr. (11.9 ppg) and Goodwin (10.5 ppg) are also averaging double figures in scoring.
  • Goodwin leads the team in assists (37) and steals (26).
UP NEXT
App State will begin Sun Belt play with two straight games in Alabama. The Mountaineers will open league play on Thursday at South Alabama at 8 p.m. EST, followed by a contest at Troy on Saturday at 3 p.m. EST. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
