Dodd Takes Home Sun Belt Player of the Week Honors

NEW ORLEANS – App State Men's Basketball senior guard Alonzo Dodd has been named App State's first Player of the Week of the season after leading the Mountaineers to victories over East Carolina and High Point.

In Sunday's thrilling overtime win over the Panthers at the Hickory Hoops Classic, Dodd poured in a career-high 25 points, the most scored in a game by a Mountaineer this season and the eighth-highest single-game scoring total by a Sun Belt player this year. Dodd also grabbed a season-high seven rebounds and dished out a season-best seven assists. Dodd buried five 3-pointers on six attempts, good for an 83 percent rate, to place him 10th in program history for 3-point percentage in a game.

Sunday's effort followed a 17-point performance at ECU in App State's 13-point road win on Thursday. The St. Paul, Minn., native shot 8-for-16 from the field and pulled down seven rebounds, while also recording two assists and a steal in the Mountaineers' first road victory over the Pirates since 1998.

For the week, Dodd averaged 21 points, seven rebounds and 4.5 assists, while shooting 52 percent from the field and going 6-for-10 from behind the arc. He raised his season scoring average by a full two points thanks to his two outbursts.

Dodd is one of just two players in the Sun Belt this season (Chaze Harris – South Alabama) who are averaging double-figure scoring, while also averaging at least 4.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.

The next chance to see Dodd and the Mountaineers is Thursday at 6:30 p.m., as they take on Coastal Carolina at the Holmes Center to open Sun Belt play. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
