Mountaineers Aim to get Back on Track this Weekend

BOONE, N.C.  - Appalachian State University women's soccer (2-7-2, 1-2 SBC) looks to get back on track in conference play this weekend with a pair of matches, beginning with 7 p.m. home match on Friday versus Arkansas State (6-4, 2-2 SBC) before traveling to San Marcos, Texas to face Texas State (5-4-1, 3-1 SBC).

About the Mountaineers
The Mountaineers fell to Troy last Sunday on a late goal by the Trojans in the 87th minute of the match. Appalachian held the advantage in shots, 13-7, and shots on goal, 4-3, but couldn't find the back of the net. It was the sixth setback of the season by one goal, while 10 of the 11 matches this season have been by one goal or resulted in a tie. 

App Leaders
Kat Greer is tied for the lead with three goals along with Ava DawsonSharon Osterbind scored her second goal of the season against the Panthers, while the trio of Greer (3), Dawson (3) and Osterbind (2) have scored eight of the Mountaineers' 10 goals. Emmily Cowie leads the Black and Gold with three assists through 11 games. Taylor Ray has been the primary goalkeeper with 672 minutes played between the posts to go along with 29 saves and a 1.74 goals against average. 

Scouting Arkansas State 
The Red Wolves have won two of their last three matches after coming off a 1-0 setback to Texas State on Sunday. A-State has been a tough out on the road this season with a 3-1 mark including back-to-back wins against Central Arkansas and UT Martin. Sarah Sodoma's 12 points is a team high for the Red Wolves and are the second largest in the Sun Belt while her five goals are second as well in the conference. A-State boasts four other student-athletes that have scored multiple goals. Kelsey Ponder is the primary goalkeeper for the visitors, as she is boasting a .56 GAA with 39 saves and a 5-2 mark. 

Scouting Texas State 
Texas State has been trending upwards capturing four of its past five matches, including the last two contests against Georgia Southern and Arkansas State. TXST has allowed the second-fewest goals at 11 this season, while Heather Martin and Kathryn Budde are third and fourth, respectively, in goals-against average in the league. Martin has played 540 minutes between the frames with a 1.00 GAA and Budde has seen 399 minutes, boasting a 1.13 GAA. 

Series History
Arkansas State: App is 2-1 in the all-time series with A-State capturing the previous matchup in 2016. 

Texas State: The Mountaineers are 1-1-1 in the all-time series against the Bobcats.
