Milch Wins Shot Put on Final Day in Johnson City

JOHNSON CITY, TENN. - Nathan Milch breaks his former App State record and seizes his second shot put victory at the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center as Appalachian State University men's track and field wrapped up competition at the Buccaneer Track & Field Invitational on Saturday.

Senior throwers Milch and Ellsworth Parham continue to dominate the shot put circle by grasping their fourth consecutive top-three finish in 2017.  Milch blasted out a lifetime best of 56-10.50 (17.33m) to take first, and Parham hurled the implement 52-11.25 (16.13m) to place second. Milch's winning performance at the Buccaneer Invite broke his former indoor shot put record set in 2016 by an inch.

On the track, freshman Sean Doyle ran a collegiate personal best of 1:57.51 to finish 16th and Chris Kelly clocked a time of 4:34.04 in the mile. In the relay, the group of Josh Hanna, Ryan Hastings, Andrew Spear and Elliott Graves ran a time of 3:19.37 to finish second.

In the field events, Jordan Dale registered his second-best high jump performance of the season clearing the bar at 6-6 (1.98m) to tie for fourth, and Nick Hinton jumped 6-0.75 (1.85m) to place seventh. Lastly, three pole vaulters landed inside the top five with Phillip Thomas finishing in third with a jump of 15-5 (4.70m), and tying for fourth was Michael Utecht and Tristian Shaver with a clearance of 14-11 (4.55m).
