Men's Track and Field Places Sixth in Sun Belt

LAFAYETTE, La. – Appalachian State University men's track and field wrapped up the Sun Belt Championships third day on Sunday.
Stanley Broaden won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.67 and also took second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.04. Broaden's time in the 400 hurdles was a personal-best and good for second all-time in program history. The time is also marked as ninth-best in the NCAA East Region and 16th in the country.
Also placing in the 400 hurdles was Brandon Smith with a time of 54.44 in eighth.
Michael Ellis joined Broaden as a Sun Belt champion in the 5,000-meter run. Ellis won the race by over six seconds with a time of 14:35.47.
In the 800-meter run, Ryan Hastings placed third with time of 1:51.21. William Buckley placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a season-best time of 10.46.
Phillip Thomas provided a big third-place finish in the pole vault with a personal-best height of 16-9.25 - good for second all-time in program history. Evan Georges finished fifth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:57.58.
App State's 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Russell Price, Antonio Marcano Jr., Buckley and Marshall McRae took sixth with a time of 40.86. To close things out, the 4x400-meter relay team of Broaden, Hastings, Andrew Spear and Smith finished fifth with a time of 3:16.68.
