BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Led by Tristin Van Ord's second career Sun Belt indoor title, Appalachian State University women's track and field is in first place after day one of the Sun Belt Indoor Championships with 50.5 points. That total is 28.5 more than they had last year after Monday's performances.
Van Ord's first-place 3,000 time of 9:43.54 was one of nine Mountaineer marks to score amongst five events. App State was able to score three times in a single event for both the high jump and long jump. The Black and Gold also reserved their spot in Tuesday's finals for three events including the 60-meter dash (Darlene Girardeau), 200-meter dash (Girardeau) and 800 (Shelby Howell).
Appalachian State took home second place in both the distance medley relay and high jump. The DMR team that ran in a time of 11:56.37 consisted of Elisa Sargent, Howell, Sarah Hoffert, and Torre Moser while Hunter Welborn had the second-best leap for the high jump at 5-8.75. Third-place finishers were Makayla Roten in the high jump (5-7.75) and Chelsey Hargrave in the long jump (19-1.25).
The other scorers included Kaytlyn Gill in the long jump (fourth/19-0.50), Brianna Tate in the weight throw (fifth/58-5.75), Girardeau in the long jump (seventh/18-10.50), and Libby Florence in the high jump (tied for seventh/5-5.25).
Day two's action will begin at 9 a.m. CT with the final three events of the men's heptathlon and 9:20 a.m. CT with all five events of the women's pentathlon.
