ROCK HILL, S.C. - Appalachian State University women's cross country won the Division I team title at the 32nd annual Winthrop/Adidas Cross Country Invitational and did so with a score of 20.

The Mountaineers would have also placed first when put in the overall standings and that effort was led by Tristin Van Ord who took home medalist honors with a time of 18:07.9.

The next to finish for App State was Torre Moser (18:39.0) who was third among DI runners and fourth overall. Right behind her were both Hana Ratcliffe (18:39.4) and Samantha Campanaro (18:41.2). Freshman Ann Sekutowski rounded out the scoring for Appalachian State in seventh for DI and eighth overall at 18:45.5.

The Black and Gold took seven of the top 11 DI spots, eight of the overall's top 15 and placed all 17 of their runners in the top 46 in a field of 139 total competitors.

For the team standings, South Carolina was second-best with 43 points and Winthrop concluded the top three with 88 points. For the non-Division I portion, the top three went Queens (18 points), Emmanuel (67 points) and Auburn Montgomery (108 points).

"Overall, I'm very excited about how the day went," said head coach Michael Curcio. "We're seeing some good progress and we just want continued results like this as the season goes on."

For Curcio, the individual that stood out the most was the freshman Sekutowski. "I'm really happy with the progress Ann has made," said Curcio. "She has really become a standout in just her first season."

Next up for the Mountaineers is the USC Upstate Open on Saturday, Oct. 3 in Spartanburg, S.C. beginning at 9 a.m.
