BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's track and field will compete in the Mountaineer Open on Friday and Saturday, hosted at the Holmes Center.
The weight throw and triple jump events will begin on Friday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. while the rest of the events will resume at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8.
The Mountaineers will host 25 teams that include Belmont Abbey, Carson Newman, Coastal Carolina, Gardner-Webb, King, Lees-McRae, Lenoir Rhyne, Livingstone, Queens, Mars Hill, Milligan, Montreat, South Carolina State, Southern Wesleyan and USC Upstate.
Last weekend the Mountaineers participated in the Hilton Garden Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., coming away with 20 top-15 finishes.
Kyle McFoy led the way for the Apps in the meet with a third-place finish in the 3,000 meter run. McFoy posted a time of 8:29.06, good enough for a personal best.
Michael Ellis and Andrew Vandenberg finished in the top half of the pack in the 5,000 meter run last weekend as Ellis placed eighth with a time of 15:23.05. Vandenberg followed, placing 13th, running the race in 15:37.62.
The pole vaulters all finished in the top-15 with equal heights as Matt Layne led the way with height of 14-5.25, placing sixth. Phillip Thomas followed with an eighth place finish and a height of 14-5.25. Alex Lomax rounded out the pole vaulters with an 11th place finish with a height of 14-5.25.
High jump found a top-ten finish as Samuel Allen placed ninth for App State with a jump of 6-4.75.
The throwers found three top-15 finishes in the shot put as John Leonard took ninth (48-2.35), Nathan Milch finished tenth (46-4.30) and Nick Sansotta posted a 12th place finish (45-4.90).
The Apps will return to action on Feb. 14 when they travel to Birmingham, Ala. to compete in the Cupid Classic.
