BOONE, N.C. — Coming off two back-to-back overtime victories in the High Country, the App State field hockey team is set to face Davidson in a midweek matchup at 6 p.m. Wednesday on the road.
The Mountaineers recently defeated Towson and Georgetown to begin their 2026 season, with both wins coming after regulation in a single 15-minute, 11-on-11 overtime period.
Sarah Callery sealed the win for the Mountaineers over Towson in overtime, tipping the ball past the goalkeeper after an entry pass from team captain
Kassie Paul.
Against Georgetown,
Chloe Hook scored her first career goal in game-winning fashion, slotting the ball between the goalkeeper's legs in the dying seconds of overtime to avoid a shootout.
Baylie Phillips scored the equalizer late in the fourth quarter off a rebound for her first goal of the season to get the Mountaineers on the board and force overtime.

Scouting the Mountaineers
The Mountaineers are coming off two home wins in the High Country, both ending in game-winning fashion in overtime.
Dakota Anderson has been solid in goal for the Mountaineers, recording a shutout in her first career start and tallying nine saves while allowing just one goal over the weekend. For her performance, she was named the first 2026 MAC Goalkeeper of the Week, marking her first career weekly honor.
The Mountaineers retain key returners from the 2025 season, led by four-time 2025 Defensive Player of the Week
Sophia Baxter, along with fellow team captains
Kassie Paul and
Calista Schwartz, a Vancouver, Canada, native and member of the FIH Junior World Cup roster.
App State has added impactful transfers to its 2026 roster, highlighted by fellow Canadian National Team player and Vancouver native
Rylie Novak, who transferred from Iowa. Junior
Madie Baker, who saw action at Liberty, joins the team along with
Brynn Shaffer from Michigan State, who appeared in 15 games last season while tying for third in goals, assists, and points for the Spartans. Hailing from Santa Rosa, Argentina, is
Amparo Figueroa, a junior forward transfer from Converse University who earned 2025 First-Team All-SAC honors after leading her team in goals (12), points (30), shots on goal (47), and game-winning goals (3), while finishing second with six assists.
The Mountaineers have also added five freshmen to the roster, headlined by the sister duo of
Chloe Hook and
Morgan Hook, who both had illustrious careers at Penn Manor High School in Millersville, Pa. Joining them in the freshman class is fellow Pennsylvania native
Reagan Bailey from Dallastown Area High School, where she was named Offensive Player of the Year. The final two newcomers are
Jackie Kerner from Crofton, Md., where she won multiple Maryland state titles, and
Mai Hattori from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson enters the matchup after splitting its first two games of the season against familiar foes, falling to Georgetown 2-1 in the opener before defeating Towson 4-0. The Wildcats lost six starters and 70% of their scoring from last season, but they return multiple All-A-10 honorees from 2025. Davidson is led by head coach Zoe Almquist, who is in her eighth season at the helm.
Series History
• vs. Davidson: This marks the 80th all-time meeting between the Mountaineers and the Wildcats, with App State trailing 37-41-1 in the series. The Mountaineers have won the last five matchups against the Wildcats, including a 7-3 victory in the High Country last season. All-time career assist leader
