BOONE, N.C. – App State Tennis will travel to face UNC Asheville on Sunday, with the match scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown in Asheville, N.C.

The Mountaineers recently secured a decisive victory over Queens University on the road in Charlotte, N.C. With Queens unable to field a sixth player for a third doubles team, the Mountaineers started the day with a 1-0 lead in doubles. The pair of
Olwyn Ryan-Bovey and
Naledi Manyube dominated their match, winning 6-0 to secure the doubles point for App State.
Naledi Manyube,
Alexi Cleveland, and
Ruby Broadbent all delivered strong performances, winning their singles matches in straight sets.
Manyube clinched the win for the Mountaineers, defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-1. A victory from Broadbent added to the point total, bringing the Mountaineers to five points by the end of the day—marking the third time this season App State has scored 5 or more points in a match.
On the Mountaineers
Dada-Mascoll is currently 5-0 in singles this season, with all wins coming from the No. 1 spot. Romanichen is 4-0 in singles, playing from the No. 2 spot, including a win over Furman's SoCon Player of the Week, Sara Snyder.
Manyube is off to a strong start this season, boasting a 4-1 record in singles and a perfect 4-0 record in doubles. The pairing of Manyube and Broadbent is currently the only undefeated doubles team for the Mountaineers to have played multiple matches, with all their wins coming from the No. 3 spot.
The Mountaineers are coming off an impressive fall campaign. Dada-Mascoll and Romanichen had a standout season, winning the ITA Conference Masters Championships and qualifying for the NCAA Doubles Championships—both firsts in program history. The duo earned a national ranking of No. 23, the highest a doubles pair has been ranked in App State history.
Dada-Mascoll also qualified for the prestigious ITA All-American Championships, where only the nation's top 128 players compete, showcasing some of the best talent in the country.
Last season, App State reached the Sun Belt Championship match for the first time in program history under head coach
Hannah Fetters. The Mountaineers finished the season tying a program record with 15 wins and a 6-5 mark in Sun Belt Conference play, finishing seventh in the standings.
This season, App State returns five players from last year's team, including Dada-Mascoll. As a sophomore, the Yorkshire, England native went 21-2 in singles and won 15 doubles matches while posting a 6-3 record against Sun Belt opponents.
Senior Ryan-Bovey and sophomore
Taya Powell also return after stellar seasons in 2024, with Ryan-Bovey and Powell winning 12 and nine doubles matches, respectively. The Mountaineers also welcomed newcomers
Ruby Broadbent,
Cassidy Carlson,
Alexi Cleveland, and Romanichen to the team this past fall.
On the Bulldogs
UNC Asheville holds a 5-1 record, most recently defeating UNC Greensboro 6-1 in Greensboro, N.C. The Bulldogs finished last season as Big South Conference Champions, along with a 16-4 (5-0 Big South) record. UNC Asheville returns its seven players from last season's championship squad, adding three newcomers for the 2024-25 season.
