Mountaineers Host Wofford for Sunday Funday Matinee

BOONE, N.C. - The App State women's basketball team (2-1) will round out its season-opening homestand with a Sunday matinee against Wofford (1-2) at 2 p.m. in the Holmes Convocation Center.
 
Fans are encouraged to come to the Holmes Center early for Sunday Funday, as the concourse will open at 1 p.m. with yard games and other activities to play. There will also be an autograph session with the team on the court at the conclusion of the game. 
 
Last Time Out
The Mountaineers suffered their first setback of the season on Wednesday, falling short to Davidson, 74-55. Senior Elena Pericic's 1,000th career point highlighted the night and she was one of three Mountaineers to net double-figures against the Wildcats. Pericic, senior Emma Smith, and junior Daisia Mitchell combined for 39 of App State's 55 points. Smith scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed a team high seven boards. Over the course of the game, the Mountaineers caused 16 Davidson turnovers and held the Wildcats to four offensive rebounds. 
 
Rankings Report
Mitchell leads the Sun Belt and ranks 72nd nationally in field percentage with a mark of 60.0%. She is the Mountaineers' top scorer, averaging 12.7 points per contest, and is followed by freshman Addie Biel, sophomore Jayden McBride, and Smith, who each average 10.0 points per game. Smith leads the team in assists, dishing out 3.3 per game, while graduate student Zoë McCrary leads the Black and Gold in rebounds, grabbing 5.3 boards per game. 
 
App State leads the league and rounds out the NCAA's top 30 in rebound margin (15.7). The Mountaineers stand second in the Sun Belt and among the nation's top 50 in bench points per game, averaging 33.0. App State also ranks second in the league in field goal percentage (47.2%) and defensive rebounds per game (29.7). 
 
Series History vs. Wofford
App State holds a 30-11 lead in its all-time series with Wofford. The Mountaineers fell short, 71-63, in their last meeting with the Terriers on Dec. 7, 2024 in Spartanburg, S.C. Zada Porter led the Black and Gold with 16 points off the bench and combined with Mara Neira for four of App State's five 3-point buckets. App State netted 30 points in the paint and made eight steals to Wofford's four. 
 
Scouting Wofford
Wofford is 1-2 and opened the season with a 126-65 victory over Converse University on Nov. 3. The Terriers seek their first win over a Division I opponent after dropping close contests to High Point (Nov. 8) and Georgia State (Nov. 11). 
 
Junior forward Queen Ikhiuwu is Wofford's top scorer and rebounder, averaging 15.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest. Ikhiuwu leads the SoCon and ranks 26th nationally in field goal percentage (67.6%). She also leads the league in field goals (23) and stands second in rebounds (24), third in blocks per game (1.0), and fourth in three additional categories. Ikhiuwu, sophomore guard Molly Masingale, and freshman guard Gabby Mundy are tied for the SoCon's top spot and 42nd nationally in double-doubles. Mundy, who ranks second in the conference in field goal percentage (50.0%), leads the team and ranks second in the SoCon in assists, dishing out 4.0 per game. 
 
Wofford leads the SoCon and ranks among the NCAA's top 10 in defensive rebounds per game (35.0), rebounds per game (51.67), and rebound margin (21.0). The Terriers also lead the SoCon and rank 57 nationally in field goal percentage (47.4%). 
 
On the Horizon 
The Mountaineers will travel to Morgantown, WVa. and Asheville, N.C. for their first road trip of the season. App State will take on West Virginia at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 20  before challenging UNC Asheville at 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 22.
