Mountaineers Round Out First Day of Competition at VT Invitational

BLACKSBURG, Va. -  The App State women's track and field team rounded out the first day of competition at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Friday with 16 top-five finishes. Competition will resume at 11 a.m. on Saturday with field events. Events on the track are slated for a 2 p.m. start.
 
In the women's unseeded 1,000 meters, freshman Savannah Moore clocked a personal best of 2:57.90 to place third. Her time also moves her to second in the App State all-time list. Sophomore Rhys Ammon finished sixth (3:00.99), senior Regan Hodge placed seventh (3:02.49), and freshman Ella Battel took eighth (3:06.52). The trio's times placed them among the all-time list's top-10.
 
Graduate student Noelle Meeker finished fourth with a personal best clearance of 3.86m (12' 8") in the unseeded women's pole vault competition,. Her clearance moves her to fifth in the App State all-time list. Freshman Abigail Goetz and junior Caroline Fowlkes finished among the top-10 with clearances of 3.56m (11' 8") and 3.41m (11' 2.25"), respectively. Junior Ava Studney and freshman Lilly Nichols will compete in Saturday's 11 a.m. women's pole vault.
 
Sophomore Kendall Johnson matched her personal best of 7.56, previously set at the 2024 VMI Winter Classic, to place fourth in the women's 60-meter finals. She had advanced to the finals after clocking a time of 7.61 to finish fifth in the prelims. Freshman Katie Johnson clocked a personal best of 5:34.92 to round out the top-five in the women's unseeded mile.
 
In the women's long jump, freshman Jahaila Wright recorded a leap of 5.59m (18' 4.25") to land eighth overall. Sophomore Jayla Adams also registered a ninth-place finish, stopping the clock at 39.19 in the women's 300 meters. Her time was a personal best and moved her to third in the App State all-time list. In the unseeded section of the women's 300 meters, freshman Ja'Naya Linder clocked a personal best of 39.98 to place third. Her time moves her to 10th in the program all-time list. Fellow freshman Zaniya Littlejohn stopped the clock at 40.23 for a personal best and eighth-place finish.

Senior Jasmine Donohue finished ninth with a time of 9:45.08 in the women's 3,000 meters. In the unseeded section of the women's 3,000 meters, freshman Breanna Budzinski placed ninth with a personal best of 10:29.58 and senior Lana Farris finished 10th with a personal best of 10:30.39.
