BOONE, N.C. - App State Women's Tennis junior
Savannah Dada-Mascoll has been selected to participate in this month's ITA All-American Championships in Cary, N.C. This is the first time in recent App State history that a Mountaineer has been invited to participate in the prestigious tournament.Â
Â
Only 128 players from across the country are selected, bringing in the best competition from around the nation to compete.Â
Â
Pre-qualifying singles play begins on Sept. 21, followed by qualifying and main draw rounds, both containing 64 players. From there, 10 players will qualify to participate in the NCAA Singles Championship, which will produce one winner. Matches will be played at the Cary Tennis Park from Sept. 21-29.Â
Â
Dada-Mascoll had an incredible singles season last year, going 21-2 in her sophomore year and recording the most wins by an App State player in the modern era. She went undefeated in a two-month span, winning 16 matches over that stretch. Dada-Mascoll didn't drop a single match in postseason play, even taking down ranked Sofia Johnson from Old Dominion in the SBC Tournament final. Dada-Mascoll ended the spring season garnering first-team All-SBC honors for the second consecutive year.
Â
In doubles, Dada-Mascoll won 15 matches, going 6-3 against Sun Belt opponents. She went undefeated in the No. 2 spot last year, winning three matches in Sun Belt play. She also went on an undefeated streak with
Brooke Gruber, winning six matches in a stretch of 20 days.Â
Â
The Mountaineers are coming off of a record year, led by second-year head coach Hannah Fetters. They earned back-to-back NIT appearances for the first time, tied the program record of 15 team wins and secured a spot in the Sun Belt Championship final for the first time.Â
Â
The Mountaineers are slated to host their first-ever fall tournament in the High Country on Thursday, starting at noon.
