ARLINGTON, Texas – App State Baseball infielder
Austin St. Laurent was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 14th round of the 2024 MLB Draft on Tuesday.
St. Laurent becomes the 47th App State player to be drafted by a Major League organization and the sixth in the
Kermit Smith era.
A first-team All-Sun Belt selection and an all-region pick, St. Laurent capped his three-year App State career with a terrific 2024 campaign.
The Elon, N.C., native started all 55 games, slashing 366/.424/.618 with 12 doubles, 14 home runs and 60 RBIs, reaching base safely in each of his final 24 contests.
St. Laurent finished the season tied for the league lead in triples (four), ranked third in the Sun Belt in runs scored (78) and tied for third in hits (90). He was sixth in batting average (.366), 10th in slugging (.618) and 10th in OPS (1.042).
He also set the App State single-season program record for runs scored while ranking fourth in total bases (152), sixth in hits, tied for seventh in RBIs and ninth in home runs. He finishes his career ninth in program history in runs scored (146).
St. Laurent joined the Mountaineers in 2022 as a transfer from ECU and made an immediate impact. He was named the Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, becoming the fifth player in program history to earn Freshman of the Year honors. He was also recognized as a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball.
In three seasons with the Mountaineers, St. Laurent batted .325 and tallied 194 hits in 146 games. A versatile defender, St. Laurent started games at first base, third base, shortstop and center field throughout his career. He helped lead the Mountaineers to back-to-back 30-win seasons for the first time since 2012-13.
