BOONE, N.C. - The App State women's basketball team is set to take on Troy in its penultimate road game of the regular season on Feb. 28. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. CT (7 p.m. ET) in Troy, Ala. and the game will be available to stream on ESPN+.
Last Time Out
App State clinched an 83-79 Senior Day victory over James Madison to close out regular season home action with a 10-3 record at the Holmes Center. Senior
Faith Alston led the Mountaineers with 25 points, marking her 18th game as the Mountaineers' top scorer, while fifth-year senior
Taylor Lewis netted a career-high 23 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Lewis drained five from the arc, while Alston and sophomore
Alexis Black combined for six of the Mountaineer's 12 treys. Alston also dished out nine assists.
App State shot 40% from the arc and 72.2% from the line. The Mountaineers held JMU, which had rounded out the week's CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Women's Top-25, to nine points off turnovers and seven treys. App State also caused 12 JMU turnovers and recorded 16 fastbreak points compared to the Dukes' seven.
Ranked Mountaineers
For the week of Feb. 19-25, Alston led the league in the assists and assists per game categories, and ranked eighth nationally in the assists category. Black tied for the lead in the Sun Belt for free throw percentage. Lewis ranked second in the SBC in both the 3-pointers and 3-pointers per game categories. App State led the league in free throws made per game and ranked second in 3-pointers per game.
In league-only play, Alston ranks second in the assists category and fourth in the scoring category. Sophomore
Rylan Moffitt checks in at fourth in the blocked shots category. App State ranks second in made 3-pointers and third in team 3-point percentage. The Mountaineers also stand fourth in the scoring offense, team defensive rebounds, and assists categories.
For the season as a whole, Alston ranks second in the assists category and rounds out the top-five in the scoring category. Junior
Emily Carver ranks third for 3-point field goals per game and Moffitt ranks fourth in the blocks category. The Mountaineers stand third in the SBC for made 3-pointers and round out the top-five in the scoring offense and team 3-point percentage categories for the season.
Last Time Against Troy
App State last met Troy on Feb. 18, 2023, falling short to the Trojans, 73-66. Carver and
Janay Sanders each netted 14 points against the Trojans, with Carver accounting for four of the Mountaineers' seven treys on the day. Carver,
Brooke Bigott, and Lewis each pulled down five rebounds. Bigott and Alston each dished out six assists and Alston netted 10 points.
Scouting Troy
Troy is 17-10 (13-3 SBC) this season and is looking to extend its five-game win-streak, which has spanned from Feb. 10 to Feb. 24. Troy opened Sun Belt action with a one-point loss to Georgia State on Dec. 31 before recovering with nine consecutive wins from Jan. 4 to Feb. 1. Southern Miss snapped the Trojans' streak in Hattiesburg, Miss. on Feb. 3 and the Trojans fell short to Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. on Feb. 7. The Trojans will close out the regular season on Friday with a game against South Alabama.
Four Trojans average double-figures, led by Tai'Sheka Porchia, who averages 15.3 points per game. Ja'Mia Hollings averages 14.5 points per contest, Makayia Hallmon averages 15.2 points per game, and Nia Daniel averages 12.5 points per game. Hollings leads the team in the rebounds category, averaging 8.7 per contest, while Porchia follows with 8.1 rebounds per game. Hollings also leads the team in the blocks and steals categories. In the assists category, Shaulana Wagner leads the Trojans with an average 4.6 assists per contest.

App State will close out the regular season with a 7 p.m. CT (8 p.m. ET) game against Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark. on March 1. Friday's game will be available to stream on ESPN+.
