Mountaineers Look to Tame Terriers on Saturday

BOONE, N.C. - The App State women's basketball team's road stretch continues with a stop in Spartanburg, S.C. as the Mountaineers challenge Wofford at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be available to stream on ESPN+.    
 
Last Time Out
The Mountaineers fell short to Vanderbilt, 94-40, in Nashville on Dec. 1. Senior Asjah Inniss led the Black and Gold, netting 11 points and draining all three of App State's treys. For a fourth consecutive game, junior Rylan Moffitt grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Moffitt also made three blocks against the Commodores. Senior J'Mani Ingram pulled down six rebounds in addition to netting six points, while senior Zada Porter and junior Seneya Martinez combined for four of App State's eight assists on the afternoon. 
 
Around the Mountain 
Senior Emily Carver leads the team, averaging 12.3 points per contest. She has been the Mountaineers' top scorer in four games this season, including three consecutive games from Nov. 11 to Nov. 27. Moffitt leads the team in rebounds, averaging 5.6 per contest. Porter ranks fourth in the Sun Belt and among the NCAA's top-100 in assists per game, dishing out 4.4 per contest. Senior Mara Neira ranks sixth in the league in 3-point percentage (34.9%) and 3-pointers per game (2.14). Neira also leads the team in steals, averaging 1.9 per contest.
 
App State ranks second in the Sun Belt in assists per game (16.1) and field goal percentage (43.7%). The Mountaineers also rank this in the league in defensive rebounds per game (28.4) and fourth in rebounds per game (42.43). The Black and Gold rounds out the league's top-five in 3-pointers per game (7.0) and bench points per game (28.1). 
 
Series History vs. Wofford
App State leads the all-time series against Wofford, 30-10. The Mountaineers came up short, 71-42, in their last meeting with the Terriers on Dec. 3, 2022 in Spartanburg. 
 
Scouting Wofford
Maddie Heiss and Evangelia Paulk lead the team, averaging 12.0 and 11.7 points per contest, respectively. Paulk also leads the Terriers in rebounds, averaging 5.3 per game, and leads the SoCon in steals (26) and steals per game (3.71). In the NCAA, Paulk ranks sixth in steals per game and 18th in total steals.  Molly Masingale, who has shot 80.8% from the line this season, ranks second in the SoCon in free throw percentage.  In the assists category, Sara Deidda averages a team high 2.7 assists per contest.
 
Wofford enters Saturday's contest 5-2 (0-0 SoCon) on the season and ranked 21st in this week's CollegeInsider.com Women's Mid-Major Top-25. The Terriers enter Saturday's contest after wins over Southern Wesleyan (Nov. 19), High Point (Nov. 21), and UNC Asheville (Nov. 26). Wofford opened the season with a pair of victories over Newberry College (Nov. 4) and NC Central (Nov. 9). On the road, Wofford fell to No. 19 Kentucky on Nov. 12, and Davidson on Nov. 16.  
 
In the SoCon rankings, Wofford leads the league in bench points per game (28.4), free throws made per game (13.75), defensive rebounds per game (26.3), and steals per game (10.9). Wofford also ranks second in the league in free throw percentage (72.5%) and rebounds per game (38.43).  
 
On the Horizon 
The Mountaineers remain on the road for their next two games as they challenge College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C. on Dec. 17 and Mercer in Macon, Ga. on Dec. 21. App State will open Sun Belt action in Boone on Dec. 29 against Arkansas State.
