BOONE, N.C. - The App State women's basketball team is set to open play at the Holmes Convocation Center on Wednesday against Columbia College. The game is slated for 5 p.m. and is part of a doubleheader with the men's team, whose game against St. Andrews will follow.
The home opener will be the first chance for App State fans to see head coach
Alaura Sharp at the helm of the program as well as the 2024-25 squad in action at the Holmes Convocation Center. One ticket will get fans into both the women's 5 p.m. game and the men's 7:30 p.m. game.
Last Time Out
The Mountaineers opened the season in Oxford, Ohio against Miami University for the first installment of the 2024-25 MAC-SBC Challenge on Monday. App State fell short to the RedHawks, 75-48.
In her debut in the Black and Gold, junior
Seneya Martinez netted a team-high 15 points, combining with fellow newcomer senior
Mara Neira for six of the Mountaineers' seven treys. Neira netted 11 points and matched Martinez with four rebounds apiece. The Mountaineers' top rebounder on the night was senior
Zada Porter, who pulled down eight, which was two rebounds shy of her career high of 10, originally set on Feb. 24, 2023 against ULM. Porter also dished out a team-high three assists.

After the season opener, Martinez and Neira are tied for third in the Sun Belt in 3-pointers per game and total 3-pointers. Martinez also ranks fourth in the league in 3-point percentage (60.0%) and rounds out the top-10 in field goal percentage (55.6%). Senior

App State ranks fourth in the SBC in defensive rebounds per game (27.0) and rounds out the top-five in bench points per game (22.0). The Mountaineers also stand sixth in the league in assists per game (11.0), steals per game (12.0), and turnovers forced per game (22.0)
Series History vs. Columbia College
Wednesday's game will mark the first meeting between the Mountaineers and Koalas.
Scouting Columbia College
Keyshuna Fair and Tysonia Lowe lead the Koalas, each averaging 11.5 points per game. Fair has shot 45.5% from the arc and 72.7% from the line, while Lowe has shot 55.9% from the field, and 50.0% from the arc and the line. Lowe leads the team in rebounds, averaging 5.8 per game. Layla Wall averages a team-high 3.0 assists per contest while Makayla Street leads the team in the steals category, averaging 3.8 per contest.
The Koalas are 4-0 (0-0 AAC) and opened the season with an 84-53 victory over Morris on Oct. 24. Columbia College has since posted wins over Bob Jones (Oct. 26), Spartanburg Methodist (Oct. 30), and Johnson & Wales (Nov. 4).
