CLEVELAND – App State sophomores
Kassie Paul and
Florine Koopman were named MAC players of the week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Â
It is the first time in program history that the Mountaineers sweep three weeks of player awards.
Â
Paul receives Offensive Player of the Week and Koopman receives Defensive Player of the Week following a shutout win over Queens last Friday, and a championship-clenching win against James Madison last Sunday.
Â
Paul scored two pivotal goals against James Madison, her second coming after evading the JMU goalkeeper and taking advantage of an exposed goal. She finished with an 100% shot percentage for the weekend, finding the back of the cage on both of her shots on goal.
Â
Koopman played great over the weekend, recording a goal and an assist against both Queens and James Madison. Her fifth goal of the season came in last Sunday's matchup, scoring the game-winning goal to earn the title of co-champs. She as all over the field, creating scoring chances while sprinting back on breaks to help hold Queens to one shot and JMU to seven.
Â
It is the second time this season Koopman has been named player of the week, earning offensive player of the week in the third week of the season.
Â
The Mountaineers will travel to Oxford, Ohio to play in the MAC Tournament. App State will play on Thursday against the winner of Game 2 of the tournament.
