New App State 4x800-Meter Relay Record Highlights Mondo College Invite

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. The App State women's track and field team resumed the indoor season with the Mondo College Invite at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem on Saturday. The meet was highlighted by a meet and App State program 4x800-meter record as well as 17 top-five finishes.
 
The women's 4x800-meter relay team of sophomore Addison Ollendick-Smith, seniors Elizabeth Fuller and Jasmine Donohue, and freshman Rhys Ammon, clocked an App State program and meet record of 9:27.24, surpassing the previous school record of 9:33.4 set in 1993. 
 
Donohue went on to clinch first in the women's 1,000 meters with a personal best time of 2:58.30, followed by freshman Kaitlyn Obremski, who clocked a personal best of 3:09.21, to place third. Donohue's time places her second and Obremski's time moves her to seventh in the App State all-time list. Obremski also placed second in the women's 3,000 meters with a personal best of 10:34.79.
 
Ollendick-Smith came within a second of her program record and personal best of 1:37.9 in the women's 600 meters as she clocked a time of 1:38.97 to finish fourth. Fellow sophomore Lucia Garcia placed fifth with a personal best of 1:42.35. Garcia's time places her third in the App State all-time list.  
 
In the women's seeded 400 meters, freshman Sierra Smith clocked a personal best of 58.05 to finish second and sophomore Daye Talley stopped the clock at 25.66 to place third overall in the women's seeded 200 meters. Senior Taylor Smith clocked a time of 7.54 to place third in the women's 60 meters, followed by freshman Jayla Adams, who placed fourth with a time of 7.55. Graduate student Alexis Moehling placed fifth with a time of 9.08 in the women's 60-meter hurdle finals after qualifying with a time of 9.07 in the prelims.
 
Four Mountaineers placed in the top-five in the women's pole vault. Sophomore Ava Studney placed second with a clearance of 3.70m (12' 1.5"). Graduate students Noelle Meeker and Celia Agee tied for third with clearances of 3.55m (11' 7.75"), while sophomore Caroline Fowlkes rounded out the top-five with a clearance of 3.40m (11' 1.75"). Studney and Fowlkes each matched their personal bests, which were both set at the 2023 Marshall Invitational.
 
Junior Daiyanna Cooper placed second in the women's shot put with a toss of 13.36m (43' 10") and fifth in the women's weight throw with a mark of 16.44m (53' 11.25").
 
Up Next
The Mountaineers will head to Lynchburg, Va. to appear in Liberty's Brant Tolsma Invitational on Jan. 19-20.
