Mountaineers Open Outdoor Competition with Raleigh Relays & Adidas Winthrop Invitational

BOONE, N.C. - The App State men's and women's track team is set to open outdoor competition with the Raleigh Relays and Adidas Winthrop Invitational this week.
 
Four Mountaineers will compete at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by NC State in Raleigh, N.C. Sophomore Calbert Guest, junior Dwayne Lillie, and senior Oliver Wilson-Cook will kick things off on Thursday with the men's 5,000 meters, which is scheduled for a 6:33 p.m. start. On Friday, junior Jasmine Donohue will compete in the women's 5,000 meters, which is slated for a 6:25 p.m. start. 
 
The Mountaineers will head to Rock Hill, S.C. for the Adidas Winthrop Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Friday's field events will start at 1 p.m. while action on the track starts at 4 p.m. Competition on Saturday will start at 10 a.m. with field events, followed by track events at 10:30 a.m. 
 
Last Season | Outdoor Competition
The Mountaineers made appearances in seven regular season meets during the 2022 outdoor season.  At the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships, the men's team placed sixth overall with 58 points and the women's team took seventh with 51 points. 
 
Eight Mountaineers earned All-Sun Belt accolades for their efforts at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships. Ryan Brown, Macki Walsh, Taylor Smith, and Jada Branch earned Second-Team All-Conference honors, while De'Shawn Ballard, Eric Haddock Jr., Calbert Guest, and Karsyn Kane earned Third-Team All-Conference nods.
 
Branch and Smith qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round, where Branch took 13th in the women's triple jump with a personal best leap of 12.90m (42' 4") and Smith placed 26th with a leap of 5.88m (19' 3.5") in the women's long jump. 
 
Branch, along with Kane and Lane Hoyes went on to compete at the USATF Elite and U20 Outdoor Championships in June. Branch recorded a leap of 12.73m (41' 9.25") in the Elite women's triple jump to place fifth in her flight and 14th overall. Kane stopped the clock at 12:16.11 to place fifth in the U20 women's 3,000-meter steeplechase and Hoyes finished ninth in the U20 men's 5,000 meters with a time of 14:33.68.
  
Up Next
The Mountaineers will send a selection of athletes to Austin, Texas for the Texas Relays on March 29 - April 1. A selection of Mountaineers will also compete in the William & Mary Colonial Relays scheduled for March 30 - April 1 in Williamsburg, Va.  App State will also compete at the Bill Carson Invitational, hosted by ECU in Greenville, N.C. on March 31 - April 1.
