BOONE, N.C. - The App State women's basketball team is set to start its three-game road-stretch on Dec. 10 with a trip to Richmond, Va. to take on the Richmond Spiders. Sunday's game is set for a 2 p.m. tip-off and will be available to stream on ESPN+.
Last Time Out
The Mountaineers defended the Holmes Center with a 77-73 victory over the College of Charleston on Dec. 5, improving to 5-2 on the season and 3-0 in Holmes. Junior

Faith Alston led the charge against the Cougars, combining for 48 of App State's 77 points as well as five of seven of the Mountaineers' 3-point buckets. Carver netted a career-high 28 points, scoring 21 of her points in the third quarter alone. Alston scored 20 points and dished out a team-high four assists and four steals. Sophomore
Rylan Moffitt set a career-high on the night, pulling down 17 rebounds. App State kept the lead for the entirety of the game, only tying once in the first minute of play.
Ranked Mountaineers
In this week's rankings, App State ranks second in the Sun Belt and rounds out the top-20 in the NCAA for free throws made per game (16.29). The Mountaineers also stand in the top-40 in the nation for offensive rebounds per game (15.3) and steals per game (11).
Alston stands third in the Sun Belt for steals per game, averaging 2.43. In the points per game category, Alston and Carver round out the top-10 in the league, averaging 15.4 and 14.3 points per game, respectively.
Last Time Against Richmond
App State last met Richmond on Nov. 20, 2016 in Richmond. The Mountaineers fell to the Spiders, 55-46. Joi Jones and Ashley Bassett-Smith led the Black and Gold with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Bassett-Smith shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the line. Bria Carter grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, while Mikaya Wilson dished out a team-high four assists.
Scouting Richmond
Richmond is 7-2 (0-0 A10) on the season and come into Sunday's matchup after a 69-40 win against Le Moyne on Dec. 3. After opening the 2023-24 campaign with a road loss to Duke, the Spiders won six consecutive games spanning from Nov. 12 to Nov. 26, which included a triple-digit win against Delaware State, as well as victories against Gardner-Webb, American, Maine, Drake, and Louisiana Tech. Richmond fell short to Villanova (67-57) on Nov. 30.
Maggie Doogan is the Spiders' top scorer, netting 17.0 points per game. Doogan shoots .548 from the field, .463 from the arc, and .833 from the line. She is also the Spiders' top rebounder, averaging 5.9 per game. Grace Townsend dishes out a team-high 5.1 assists per game.
