Mountaineers Host Ohio Saturday for Initial MAC/SBC Challenge Game

BOONE, N.C. - The App State women's basketball team is set to host Ohio in the first of two MAC/SBC Challenge games this season on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Holmes Convocation Center. 
 
The second game of the MAC/SBC Challenge is scheduled for Feb. 10, with the opponent being announced in January based on conference standings. It will be a road game for the Mountaineers. 
 
Saturday's game is Youth Day and will be followed by a post-game autograph session. Campers from head coach Angel Elderkin's basketball camps can get free admission if they wear their camp shirt or bring in their basketball camp flyer. Family members and friends accompanying campers can purchase a $5 ticket at the gate. 
 
Last Time Out
App State opened the season with a 71-65 victory over UNC Greensboro at Holmes on Nov. 6. Four Mountaineers scored double figures, led by senior Faith Alston, who netted 15 points. In her debut in the Black and Gold, junior J'Mani Ingram tallied 11 points, on an efficient 4-of-7 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line, in addition to seven rebounds. Matching Ingram with 11 points as well as grabbing 10 boards, was fellow junior Emily Carver, who recorded her first double-double of the season. Senior Taylor Lewis also pulled down 10 rebounds. App State recorded 13 points off the bench and shot 67.7% from the line. 
 
Last Time Against Ohio
App State last met Ohio on Dec. 27, 1990. The Mountaineers fell to the Bobcats, 89-67.
 
Scouting Ohio
Ohio will be tipping off its season in Boone after hosting Marietta for an exhibition game on Nov. 1. The Bobcats won the exhibition, 92-62. 
 
Returning from last season's squad is Jaya McClure, Madi Mace, Kailah Johnson, Peyton Guice, Kate Dennis, Aja Austin, and Cassidy Lafler. McClure averaged 8.0 points per game and shot .734 from the charity stripe last season. She also averaged 2.7 assists per game. 
 
Last season the Bobcats went 6-23 (4-14 MAC). Ohio posted road wins against Miami (OH) and Eastern Michigan as well as home victories over Northern Illinois and Central Michigan during conference play. The Bobcats recorded back-to-back road victories over Indiana State and Dayton during non-conference play. 
 
On the Horizon
The Mountaineers will head to Norfolk, Va. to take on Norfolk State on Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. The game will be available to stream on HBCU+.
