Around the Conference
In league-only play, Carver leads the SBC for 3-point percentage (.500) and made 3-pointers (averaging 3.6 per conference game). Carver also ranks second in the league for field goal percentage (.512) and third for scoring, averaging 17.3 points per SBC game.
App State checks in at second for 3-pointers made, averaging 8.5 per conference contest, and stands third in the team 3-point percentage category (.362) as well as the steals category (10.25 per game). The Mountaineers rank fourth in the league for scoring, averaging 70 points per Sun Belt battle.
For the season as a whole, App State ranks second in the SBC for 3-pointers made, averaging 7.6 per contest. The Mountaineers also rank fourth in the league for scoring, averaging 70.5 points per game. Carver is fourth in the conference for 3-pointers made this season. Sanders checks in at sixth in the league for scoring, with an average 14.3 points per game.
Last Time Against Georgia State
App State met Georgia State on Feb. 12, 2022 in Atlanta, defeating the Panthers 84-78 in overtime. Tied at 74-74, a free throw from
Faith Alston gave App State a 75-74 edge that the Black and Gold built off for the remainder of the game.
Michaela Porter, who netted a team-high 21 points for the Mountaineers, drilled 4-of-4 free throws. Porter and
Janay Sanders also drove the lane for key baskets that put the win out of reach for the home team. Porter pulled down 12 rebounds for a double-double, while Sanders contributed 20 points and Alston netted 15 points for the Black and Gold.
The Mountaineers had been scheduled to clash with the Panthers on Jan. 6, 2022 in Boone, but the game was canceled due to COVID protocol.
Scouting Georgia State
The Panthers are 8-13 (2-6 SBC) this season and have lost five consecutive games in conference play. Georgia State's pair of conference wins were back-to-back victories over ULM (Dec. 31) and South Alabama (Jan. 5).
Mikyla Tolivert is the Panthers' leading scorer, averaging 13.8 points per game as well as an .852 free throw percentage. Deasia Merrill is close behind Tolivert, averaging 13.5 points per game and leads the team in rebounds, averaging 7.4 per contest. Merrill ranks second in the league for field goal percentage (.519), while Tolivert ranks second for free throw percentage for the season.
Georgia State wrapped the 2021-22 season with a 10-16 (4-9 SBC) record. In the Sun Belt Tournament, the No. 10 seeded Panthers fell to No. 7 Georgia Southern in the first round. During regular season conference play, GSU won two of three overtime games, with both wins being over South Alabama.

Saturday's game is also part of a doubleheader with the men's team, which will host Arkansas State following the women's game.
