App State Travels to Wake Forest for Midweek Contest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- App State men's basketball is set to visit an ACC opponent for the second time this season at Wake Forest on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The game will be available to watch on ACC Network with additional listening options and live stats available to follow along.

THE SERIES
  • This will be the 21st meeting between the two schools in a series that Wake Forest leads 20-0.
  • The last matchup was on Nov. 25, 2006, when the Demon Deacons came out on top, 88-78.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS (6-4)
  • A win on Wednesday would be the first time since 2006-07 that App State has defeated two autonomy-5 programs in the same season. In 06-07, the Mountaineers defeated Virginia 80-69 and Vanderbilt 87-79 (OT). Earlier this season, App State topped Louisville 61-60 on the road.
  • App State won its last contest against Carlow, 103-43 at home. CJ Huntley led the way with 12 points and eight rebounds in just 16 minutes of play. Justin Abson also scored 12 points on 6-6 shooting.
  • Abson ranks 14th in the country in blocks with 25 through his first ten collegiate games. He is second among freshmen and second in the Sun Belt, trailing Marshall's Micah Handlogten, a 7'1" freshman.
  • Donovan Gregory has stepped into a new leadership role this season, pacing the team in points (12.6), assists (40) and steals (19). The senior from Charlotte, N.C. had a 16-point outing in App State's win over Louisville and a season-high 21 against Campbell.
SCOUTING THE DEMON DEACONS (7-3)
  • Wake Forest has dropped its last two games to Clemson (57-77) and LSU (70-72). The Deacons have had notable wins against Georgia (81-71) and Wisconsin (78-75).
  • Tyree Appleby led the way against LSU with 26 points, followed by Matthew Marsh who put up 13 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Appleby leads the ACC in scoring (19.1 ppg) and is just .05 assists behind the conference-leader with 5.5 assists per game.
  • Cameron Hildreth averages 12.1 points and 6.7 rebounds, and was the first player in the ACC to record a triple-double this season during a win over Hampton.
UP NEXT
The Mountaineers will return home to host Regent on Saturday at 4 p.m. before traveling to Phoenix, Ariz. on Dec. 21, where they will face UC Santa Barbara in the Jerry Colangelo Classic at the Footprint Center.
