App State puts its four-game winning streak on the line Saturday. The Mountaineers' 4-1 start in league play is their best since joining the Sun Belt in 2014.
Last time out, App State used a 20-point, 11-rebound performance from Alexia Allesch and 18 points from Michaela Porter to win 66-61 over Coastal Carolina in the first of home-and-home games with the Chanticleers. The game saw App State lead by as many as 10 points in the third quarter and 60-51 with three minutes left in the fourth.
NOTABLES:
• The Mountaineers currently top the Sun Belt standings with their 4-1 league record. UTA and Troy are tied for second with a 6-2 mark.
• App State's four-game winning streak is its longest in conference play since joining the Sun Belt. Last year, the Mountaineers won their final three regular-season games before winning their first two at the Sun Belt Tournament. In their last 11 games against Sun Belt opponents dating back to last year, the Mountaineers are 9-2.
• Preseason All-Sun Belt third teamer Michaela Porter leads the Black and Gold and ranks seventh in the Sun Belt with an average of 13.6 points per game, while adding 5.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and a league-best 2.6 steals.
• Reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week Alexia Allesch, a transfer from Seton Hall, is second on the team with 12.9 points per game and leads the squad with 9.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per outing. Allesch has six double-doubles on the season and five in the last six contests.
• Janay Sanders is third on the team and ranks 18th in the Sun Belt with 11.2 ppg, including a career-high 22 at Mercer and 19 at Duke.
• Freshman Emily Carver ranks sixth among Sun Belt players with 1.7 three's made per game.
• Faith Alston sets the table with a team-high 3.3 assists per outing, sixth-best in the Sun Belt.
• This is the 19th matchup between the Mountaineers and the Chanticleers. App State leads 11-7 and has won each of the last four meetings.
