Women's Basketball Hosts Coastal Carolina for Education Day

BOONE, N.C. - App State women's basketball (9-8, 3-1) hosts Coastal Carolina (12-4,2-3) on Wednesday at noon at the Holmes Convocation Center, televised on ESPN+.

The home contest is the annual Education Day game, when elementary schools in the area will travel to the High Country, while faculty and staff in attendance can get into the game for free. In addition, the field trip includes an altered game time, a tour of the campus, and a great time watching the Mountaineers in action. 

A variety of food options will be available through the Holmes Center concessions, as well as through the App State dining services. Fun halftime entertainment for all ages will be announced later. 
 

• Last time out, Alexia Allesch led the Mountaineers, notching her fifth and consecutive double-double, with a career-high of 20 points and 16 rebounds against ULM. 

NOTABLES:

• The Mountaineers improve 9-8 overall and 3-1 in league action. This is their best start since joining the Sun Belt in 2014. 

• Preseason All-Sun Belt third teamer Michaela Porter leads the Black and Gold and ranks eighth in the Sun Belt, averaging 13.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and a team-best 2.6 steals.

• Sun Belt Player of the Week and newcomer, Alexia Allesch, a transfer from Seton Hall, is second on the team with 12.5 points per game and a team-high 8.9 rebounds and a team-best 0.9 blocks. 

Janay Sanders is third on the team and ranks 17th in the Sun Belt with 11.5 ppg, including a career-high 22 at Mercer and 19 at Duke.

Faith Alston is fifth on the team with 9.0 points per game and sets the table with a team-high 3.3 assists per outing.

• Freshman Emily Carver is first among Sun Belt players with 1.8 three's made per game.

• This is the 18th matchup between the Mountaineers and the Chanticleers.

• Last year's team finished 15-12 overall and 10-8 in Sun Belt Conference play.

• Head coach Angel Elderkin is in her eighth season at the helm and is looking to lead App State to its second straight winning season and third in four years.
