Women's Basketball Returns to Play Arkansas State on the Road

BOONE, N.C. - App State women's basketball (6-7) returns to play Arkansas State (8-7) on the road at 8 p.m. ET in Jonesboro, Ark., televised on ESPN+.

App State resumes Sun Belt play, following a 6-7 non-conference record, and missing the beginning of conference play due to COVID protocols and injuries. 

NOTABLES:

•  In addition to the 6-7 overall record, App State is 2-4 on the road, after notching wire-to-wire wins against UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb. 

• Last time out, the Mountaineers suffered a 89-84 loss against Eastern Kentucky, in two periods of overtime. Michaela Porter recorded a new career-high of 23 points. 

• Preseason All-Sun Belt third teamer Michaela Porter leads the Black and Gold and ranks fourth in the Sun Belt, averaging 14.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and a team-best 2.5 steals. 

• Janay Sanders is second on the team and ranks 14th in the Sun Belt with 11.1 ppg, including a career-high 22 at Mercer and 19 at Duke.

• Faith Alston is fifth on the team with 8.4 points per game and sets the table with a team-high 2.8 assists per outing.

• Newcomer Alexia Allesch, a transfer from Seton Hall, is third on the team with 10.4 points per game and a team-high 8.1 rebounds and a team-best 0.9 blocks

• Freshman Emily Carver is fifth among Sun Belt players with 1.6 three's made per game.

• This is the 15th matchup between the Mountaineers and the Red Wolves, after the Mountaineers joined the conference in 2014. 

• Last year's team finished 15-12 overall and 10-8 in Sun Belt Conference play.

• Head coach Angel Elderkin is in her eighth season at the helm and is looking to lead App State to its second straight winning season and third in four years.
