BOONE, N.C. - App State men's cross country brought home first place in the 8K at the Firetower Project Meet on Friday afternoon at Don Kennedy Fields.
Through the two races thus far, the Mountaineers have finished second and first, respectively.
It was a dominating performance with the Black and Gold registering 18 total points. Montreat (83) and Elon rounded out the top three with 85 points.
Six Mountaineers finished in the top-11, five student-athletes in the top-10 and multiple PR's set.
Daniel Smith continued his strong start to the campaign as he captured a first-place showing with a PR of 25:15.36, surpassing his previous best of 25:20.0 at UT Martin.
The Apps didn't stop there as
Isaac Benz bested his previous time from the season opener (25:37.59) and placed second at 25:27.34.
Ryan Brown also posted a season best of 25:27.74 to come in third.
Ryan Teuscher placed in sixth with a time of 25:37.86 to eclipse his previous PR of 25:38.00 set at Oklahoma, while
Calbert Guest made an appearance in the top-10 as he raced across the line with a new PR of 26:18.71.
Oliver Wilson-Cook made his season debut for the Black and Gold, where he finished 11th with a time of 26:21.81.
Caleb Kirchhoff joined in on the action of setting a new PR with a time of 26:44.73 and a 17th-place performance.
Rounding out the top-20 was
Jackson Nichols, finishing 20th with a PR mark of 26:49.57.
App State will have a break before the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic on Saturday, Oct. 2 in Louisville, Ky.
