BOONE, N.C. — The Sun Belt Conference announced its academic honors for the 2020-21 calendar Thursday, with App State leading the league's members in program-wide GPA for student-athletes, Commissioner's List selections and Academic Honor Roll selections.
App State's average GPA of 3.42 within the athletic program during the 2020-21 year ranked No. 1, ahead of second-place Arkansas State's 3.35 GPA. The Mountaineers produced 158 selections for the Commissioner's List (3.5 GPA or higher in 2020-21) and 113 additional selections to the Academic Honor Roll (between a 3.0 and 3.49 GPA).
Women's cross country recorded App State's highest team GPA with a 3.70 for the full 2020-21 calendar. In total, App State accounted for 271 of the nearly 2,500 student-athletes to be recognized among the 13 schools that are affiliated with the Sun Belt.
"We celebrate the academic achievements of these remarkable student-athletes," Sun Belt Commissioner Keith Gill said. "We're extremely proud of their ability to shine at academics while competing in their sports at the highest level."
In the spring of 2021, App State posted an 18th straight semester with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 among its student-athletes, ending that semester at a cumulative mark of 3.29.
Twelve programs ended the spring with at least a 3.0 semester GPA, with six programs higher than a 3.5, and all of App State's teams ended the spring semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
