BOONE, N.C. - App State men's golf is primmed to tee off in the 2021 Sun Belt Men's Golf Championship starting Sunday from El Dorado, Arkansas.
The Sun Belt Championship will be played at Mystic Creek Golf Club, a par-72 and a 7,181-yard course, and will also be aired on ESPN+. All 12 Sun Belt affiliate programs will comprise of the field.
"We have prepared well and must adjust to the warmer weather and a drier golf course," head coach Jason Allison said. "No one in our starting five or myself has experienced this tournament, so it will be new challenge to all of us."
One 18-hole round is scheduled for Sunday through Tuesday. The top four teams after 54 holes will then square up in a match-play event on Wednesday to decide the 2021 champion.
App State enters the championship event with six top-three team finishes on the year. The Mountaineers currently place No. 7 overall in the conference, according to the latest Golfstat rankings. In 2018, App State placed tied for eighth, a program best finish at the SBC Championship.
Timothius Tiro Tamardi, Jake Lane, Lukas Jönsson, Sverrir Haraldsson and Dylan Lukes will suit up for the Black and Gold. App state is scheduled to tee off Sunday's opening round starting at 9:30 a.m. (EST)
Tamardi has posted two top-five finishes and two top-10 efforts this season. He also leads the team in round average with a 72.13, which ranks 12th in the Sun Belt. Jake Lane holds the lowest single-season average in program history with his 71.24 average during the 2019-20 campaign.
Jönsson led the Mountaineer starting five at the Mountaineer Invitational, hosted by West Virginia on April 12-13, to post a personal season-best finish by tying for 13th on the player leaderboard.
Haraldsson carded a career-low round of 69 at the Irish Creek Invitational, April 2-3, and has three top-15 outings this season. Lukes' individual second-place finish at the Sea Palms Invitational marked a team season-best effort as well as career-best finish.
