Men's Golf To Conclude Regular Season With Mountaineer Invitational

BOONE, N.C. - App State men's golf will tee off its regular season finale Monday at the Mountaineer Invitational from Bridgeport, West Virginia.

"We had a great week of practice and prep," head coach Jason Allison said. "We focused last week on hitting fairways and greens. The guys were a little disappointed with the way we finished at Irish Creek. We will have a big test playing this Pete Dye course in Bridgeport. We need to play one shot at time, stay in the moment and not try to overpower this course."

The event, hosted by West Virginia University, was originally scheduled to be played in October of 2020 but was postponed due to COVID-19. This Monday and Tuesday will be the first time that the Invitational will be held in the spring.

The two-day, 54-hole event will take place at the Pete Dye Golf Club, a par-72 and a 7,308-yard course. A 13-team field will battle the rolling terrain as 36 holes are set for Monday, and the final 18 holes of competition are a go for Tuesday.

App State, Chattanooga, George Mason, George Washington, Georgia Southern, Loyola University Maryland, Marshall, Robert Morris, Southern Miss, UConn, West Virginia, Western Kentucky and Xavier round out the field.

Six student-athletes will start for the Black and Gold during this event, counting the lowest four scores. Timothius Tirto Tamardi, Jake Lane, Dylan Lukes, Lukas Jonsson and Sverrir Haraldsson are the projected starters for the Mountaineers. Addison beam will suit up as an individual for App State.

App State has placed top three or better as a team in six of seven events this season and better than eight different in-state opponents. Individually, the Mountaineers have recorded 10 top 15s, six top 10s and three top-5 finishes on the player leaderboards.

Entering the event, Tamardi currently holds a top-10 Sun Belt Conference round average, tied for 6th with a 71.55, throughout the 2020-21 campaign. Lukes' 72.50 is currently good enough for 21st.

Live scoring will be provided through Golfstat. Monday's opening round will begin at 9 a.m. in a shotgun format.
