BOONE, N.C. - App State women's basketball fell in heartbreaking fashion to Georgia State, 50-48, on Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Center.
The Apps are 8-10 overall and 5-7 in league action, while Georgia State is 9-6 and 5-3 in conference play.
Lainey Gosnell continued her solid play scoring 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field. Gosnell's game-high 10 rebounds gave the senior her fourth double-double of the season.
Pre Stanley tallied 12 points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out four assists.
Janay Sanders rounded out the leading scorers with eight points off the bench while grabbing four off the glass.
The Mountaineers nearly completed the comeback after facing a deficit by as much as 14 points. Trailing 47-37 with 5:46, the Apps hit five consecutive shots en route to an 11-0 surge over a 3:01 span.
Michaela Porter and Stanley led the charge combining for nine of the points. Sanders capped off the run with a jumper inside the paint to give the hosts a 48-47 edge.
Georgia State scored the next three points to pull out the victory. With the game tied, Taylor Hosendove scored as time expired to win the game for the Panthers.
App State will have a quick turnaround when it travels to Conway, S.C. to face Coastal Carolina on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
