ROCK HILL, S.C. — The start of App State's baseball season has been delayed one day, as the Mountaineers' weekend series at Winthrop now features a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. and Game 3 beginning Sunday at 2 p.m.
At this time, Winthrop is only allowing family members to attend games at The Winthrop Ballpark. The options to follow this weekend's games include the streamed radio broadcasts at WinthropEagles.com by

App State went 11-6 last season, while Winthrop has been picked to finish second in the Big South Conference after going 11-4 last season.
The Mountaineers will be playing for the first time in 346 days since closing the abbreviated 2020 season with six straight wins and nine victories over the last 10 games (with only a 15-inning loss in that stretch). The six-game winning streak was the program's longest since 2012.
App State returns all but one of its position starters from 2020 (shortstop
Luke Allison) and all but one of its primary pitchers (closer
Jack Hartman, a fourth-round pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates).
First baseman
Robbie Young and relief pitcher
Andrew Papp were the two 2020 seniors who returned for an additional season, as App State has brought back 29 players from its 2020 team and added 10 newcomers. For roster classification purposes, each team member who played in a college game last season has been advanced a year. Decisions on using the additional year granted by the NCAA will be made after that player's senior (or fourth) season of college baseball.
App State and Winthrop played 22 times between 1990 and 2004, with the Eagles winning 17 times in that stretch. Here's a closer look at the probable weekend starters on the mound.
